Giant Sub-Marine Volcano was Founded in Sumatra Waters PDF Print E-mail

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Geologist of Indonesia, US and France found a giant sub-marine volcano in Sumatera. Its diameter is 50 km with altitude of 4.600 mtr, lies at 330 km west of Bengkulu. 
The geologists were from Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT), Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI), Departemen Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM), and Institut de Physique du Globe (IPG) Paris.

Be informed, that based on evaluated and observed data analyzed of mt Karangetang, effective from 31 May 2009 the activity of Karangetang has increased as followed mentioned; 

1. Quake
A. 30 May 2009
• At 00.00 – 06.00 hours (local time), there have been 3 times long tectonic quake occurred with max amplitude 2-51 mm, S-P 25 second and long of quake will be 60 – 204 second. Twice the quake has felt on 2 M scale. MI on the time of 03.13 and 03.51 hours. Another twice local tectonic quake occurred, with its amplitude 21 – 51 mm, S-P 7 second and long of quake 25-80 second. 18 times deep volcanic quake (VA), max amplitude 3-20 mm, S-P 0.5 – 1 second and long quake of 5-12 second. 10 times shallow volcanic quake (VB), max amplitude 2 – 3 mm, and long quake of 2-5 second.

Lumajang – All climbers should restrain their desire to climb-up and get the Peak of Semeru Mountain since the climbing track of the mountain now is being closed for temporary until further notice. It’s owing to the status of Mount Semeru starting Friday 6 of March 2009 has altered from level II to level III alert.

Mataram – The eruption of mount Tambora at Region of Dompu, Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) in the year 1815 is one of the biggest eruption in the world and killed 92.000 people. “The eruption was occur on 10 – 11 april 1815, about 30 km south-east  away Satonda,” said Dr. Catur Sugiyanto, MA from Centre of Public Policy Study of Gadjah Mada university of Yogyakarta at Mataram.
