Day 1

Arrival & meeting in Jakarta
Arrival in Jakarta, transfer to downtown hotel and group dinner.

Day 2

Jakarta - transfer to the West coast
Transfer to Carita on W coast, visit of the Krakatoa volcano observatory, preparation of the expedition to Krakatau, swimming/ relaxation on beach.

Day 3

Sail to Krakatau volcano
Boat trip to Krakatoa, camp on beach on Anak Krakatoa or neighboring island, climb Anak Kraktau (if conditions allowing).

Day 4

2nd day on Krakatau - return to coast
Second day on Krakatau for observation / visit of Anak Krakatau. After a snorkeling break at a coral reef near Rakata Island return to West coast.

Day 5

Transfer to Garut in West Java
Transfer day: drive through West Java to the small university town Garut in West Java

Day 6

Papandayan - Cipanas hot springs
A full day in the beautiful volcanic area to explore hot springs & volcanic craters (Papandayan or Galunggung volcano).

Day 7

Scenic train ride to Yogyakarta
An early train (first class) brings us comfortably directly to the beautiful, lively city of Yogyakarta, Central Java's capital, and Java's cultural and spiritual heart. The train ride (about 7-8 hours), an intense cultural experience in itself, passes spectacular landscapes of rice fields and mighty volcanoes in the background. It is considered as one of the most beautiful train rides in Asia. Lunch is served from the train's restaurant.
Upon arrival in Yogya, the famous riskaws will bring us to our friendly, quiet and very comfortable hotel in a central downtown location. The rest of afternoon and the evening is for you to relax at the hotel's swimming pool or start walk around and exploring the city. In the evening, group dinner. Those who are interested, could assist a traditional Ramayana ballet performance in the evening.

Day 8

Borobodur Temple - Merapi volcano and its surroundings
Visit of Borobodur Temple - Further excursions / observation of Merapi volcano depending on activity

Day 9

Climb Merapi volcano for sunrise - Transfer to Jogjakarta
Climb Merapi starting at around midnight to reach the top at sunrise. After descending and lunch back at the base, transfer a nice hotel in Jogjakarta free program rest of the day.

Day 10

Arrival to Surabaya, transfer to Tretes mountain resort
You are picked up in Surabaya (normally at the airport or train station) and transferred to the charming mountain resort of Tretes, where we stay in a comfortable hotel. The rest of day is to relax or explore the lush surroundings of the place. Group dinner in the evening.

Day 11

start climbing Welirang volcano

start climbing Welirang volcano, camp near the village of the sulphur miners at 2700 m elevation.

Day 12

Summit area of Welirang volcano and its extensive fumarole fields
Full day to explore the summit area of Welirang, its large fumarole fields and the mining activity. Spectacular views from the top.

Day 13

Sunrise from Welirang - continue trekking to malang
Watch sunrise from the peak of Welirang and enjoy a breahtaking panorama. Continue trek to neighboring peak of Arjuno volcano, then descend through beautiful forest. Relax and bath in warm natural springs, relax and enjoy a good hotel.

Day 14

Jeep ride into the Tengger volcano massiv – Ranu pani
Scenic drive into the Tengger caldera via an impressive route on open jeeps to enjoy the dramatic landscape of deep valleys and steep cliffs.

Day 15

First etappe on the trek to Semeru
Accompanied by porters and well-equipped with food, cooking and camping gear, we will start a long (ca. 8-10 hrs), but in most parts easy trek across hills and forests to the beginning of the volcanic rocks and ash wilderness. Finally, we reach a basic campsite below the summit cone of Semeru at around 3000 m elevation. Lunch snacks on the way, and a fully cooked warm dinner at the campsite will keep our energy high.

Climb to Semeru's summit
Strenous climb up the steep cone of Semeru for sunrise, descend and hike to second camp at a lake.

Day 17

Hike back to Ranu Pani and 4WD transfer to Bromo
We hike back to Ranu Pani, where we have lunch; afterwards, an adventurous jeep drive will bring us to the village of Cemoro Lawang, crossing the sand sea of the Tengger caldera. In Cemoro Lawang we will take our rooms in a comfortable family-run hotel, located right on the edge of the caldera with spectacular views on Bromo volcano. The rest of the day is free.

Relaxed day to explore Bromo volcano and the Tengger caldera

Day 19

Sunrise over the caldera - transfer to Ijen volcano
Jeep (or hike) to sunrise viewpoint - transfer to Ijen Plateau, coffee plantations, hot bath in nearby natural hot volcanic springs.

Day 20/21

Kawah Ijen volcano and surounding
Climb and visit of Ijen's crater, descend to the sulphur mining area and the turquoise acid crater lake..

In the morning transfer to Bali Stay at the Hotel at Sanur beach area today is relaxing day free program/optional Climb up to mt.Batur and Bali site seeing
